I hear a lot of people talk about retiring. And, lately, a lot of people have been asking me when I am going to retire. I know it’s probably the grey hair, which is BS. My response to this question is always, “No way!”
I love what I do. Also, I’ve heard so many stories of people who finally retire, and they are suddenly miserable, bored, or get sick. One important exercise I do regularly that has assisted in me realizing that I don’t want to retire is envisioning my perfect day.
When I talk to others about their perfect day, some know exactly what it looks like, but most don’t or only have a vague idea.
After over a decade of visualization practice, if you ask me to describe mine, I’d be able to share with you my perfect day, week, and/or year. Of course, it wasn’t that easy when I first started.
If this sounds like something you’d like to try, here are some recommendations. First, write it down. Start with your perfect day. Where are you? Who is around you? What are you doing?
Once you have that set, move on visualizing it. Get deep. Envision the sights, smells, and sounds. From there, you can move into that same process for your perfect week and your perfect year.
Know that it will change! It actually should, or it would start feeling like Groundhog’s Day. As you grow, you might remove things altogether or maybe just slightly tweak them.
This exercise is incredibly valuable, as it equips you to make your vision a reality!
I integrate this exercise into my daily meditation routine. That way, I don’t lose track of it or get busy and forget about it.
In the upcoming weeks, give it a shot! And, don’t forget to also figure out ways to make your perfect day, week, and year a reality!
Life is good. – Jeff
