Have you ever been listened to? I mean, really listened to? Like the listener just got you and was totally present with you.
If you’ve experienced that, how did it feel? I am betting if you remember someone who was a great listener, you remember how it made you feel. Well, it feels good.
So what does it take to be a good listener?
Here is the secret: listen.
Second to that may or may not be as obvious. Don’t talk, and if you do talk, ask questions. Listen to understand, not to speak your truths about your situation.
I have said this before, but I will say it again because it’s important: we are 100% responsible for how we listen, and this is the kicker – we are partially responsible for how we are listened to. Listen to help people feel accepted, understood, important, valued, and validated.
As you go about the week, don’t talk, listen. I bet you’ll feel and see a difference in your relationships.
If you want to talk, you know where to find me.
Life is good.
