Let’s start by answering this question: “What’s the difference between IQ (intelligence quotient) and EQ (emotional quotient or emotional intelligence)?
- IQ: measures your ability to solve problems, use logic and grasp or communicate complex ideas
- EQ: measures your ability to recognize emotion in yourself and others and to use that awareness to guide your decisions.
While IQ is important, doesn’t the thought of a high EQ sound pretty good? If you feel like you could use some improvement, great! EQ is something you can develop, refine and grow over time.
Here are the four pillars of Emotional Intelligence:
- Self Awareness: Understand yourself
- Self Management/Self Control: Manage your emotions
- Social Awareness: Understand others
- Relationship Awareness: Managing relationships with others
Over the next four weeks, I will dig deeper into these four pillars and share more detailed thoughts and insights. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, start thinking about one (or a few) of the pillars you’d like to improve.
Life is good.
